It must be admitted that the fifth season of “Monk” had some rough patches, where Monk’’s OCD was overwritten and the plots got a bit limp.

But the obsessive compulsive detective is still going, and fortunately “Monk” is still one of the best shows on television. And the sixth season continues “Monk’’s” grand tradition — solidly-written mystifying stories, quirky detecting, and some excellent acting from Tony Shalhoub. Even better, the two-part finale really shows “Monk” off at its absolute best.

As the season opens, Monk (Tony Shalhoub) finds that his obsessed groupie Marcy Maven (Sarah Silverman) needs to hire him, despite a restraining order. So she “buys” him at a bachelor auction and makes him work on a bizarre case — her dog is being accused of killing someone, but the dog died before the murder took place. Needless to say, there’’s more than meets the eye.

Among the other cases the OCD detective has to deal with: a framed rapper, murder on a nudist beach, an investigation overlapping with Julie’’s love life, stolen safety-deposit boxes, treasure maps, a daredevil who might be his archnemesis, insomnia, going undercover in a cult, a newfound painting hobby, and a shot Santa. He even has to investigate Stottlemeyer’’s (Ted Levine) girlfriend.

But the story takes a darker turn toward the end of the season. Monk finds a lead for the “six-fingered man” who killed Trudy, and confronts him… and after a struggle, the six-fingered man is dead. A rural sheriff arrests Monk, but Monk insists that he’’s innocent — and he’’s determined to find out who is framing him. But with the police after him and a conspiracy in motion, can he solve the murder before he’’s caught?

“Monk” had a bit of a rough patch in the fifth season — some of the episodes simply didn”t gel, and Monk’’s OCD was written strangely. Fortunately “Monk - Season Six” goes back to what makes the series more enjoyable — a couple of episodes don”t work, like the rapper and the creepy little cult, but these are overshadowed by the better mysteries.

Nope, most of the sixth season is a string of solid murder mysteries — lots of baffling crimes, obscure clues, and new eccentricities for Monk. Despite all the murder and bittersweet moments, the episodes are peppered with some comedy as well, such as the slow demolition of Stottlemeyer’’s brand-new car. And there’’s still plenty of bittersweet (”I”m going to be buried next to Trudy. I can”t wait”) and/or hilarious dialogue (”She had the oldest profession.” “Stonemason, huh?”).

And the last two episodes of the sixth season are among the best the series has ever produced. A seemingly straightforward crime story blossoms into a heartrending, suspenseful, dramatic, and genuinely unpredictable story, and gives us a few more clues about Trudy’’s death.

Tony Shalhoub is lovably oddballish as Adrian Monk, never turning his tragicomic character into a cartoon — you just want to hug Monk and give him some perfectly symmetrical cookies. Traylor Howard does a solid job as Monk’’s assistant, and Levine gets to show Stottlemeyer’’s warmer, laid-back sides, while Jason Gray-Stanford is consistently fun as the puppy-eager Randy Disher — even getting to sing a Johnny-Cash-style song about Monk’’s apparent demise.

The sixth season of “Monk” has a couple rough patches, but soars up to brilliant heights near the end. And the obsessive-compulsive detective still seems to have quite a bit of work ahead…

This review is dedicated in the memory of Stanley Kamel who played Dr. Charles Kroger in the first 6 seasons of Monk. Stanley Kamel sadly passed away in April of 2008. He was a deeply talented character actor and he will be missed on Monk.

In general as a show goes on it doesn”t get better, but there are exceptions; some shows like The Shield seem to get better each season and Monk while maybe not getting better is still just as good now as it ever was. After the first half of season 3 ended Sharona was out as Monk’’s assistant and Traylor Howard as Natalie was in. I thought that gave Monk a much needed jolt and helped keep things fresh. In many ways it was like starting over again.

A lot of critics felt season 3 was a letdown, I disagree; the 2nd half of Season 3 are in my opinion some of the best episodes of the series. After that the 4th and 5th seasons while very good and had some of my favorite episodes of the series also featured some of the weaker ones as well, but I still liked both those seasons as a whole more than the first and 2nd. Season 4 & 5 are excellent they just lacked slightly despite being every bit as good as the previous seasons. The best way to put it I suppose is Seasons 4 & 5 had some of the best episodes, and a few that were excellent that just fell slightly short of greatness and a few sub-par episodes. But again I loved both those seasons and liked them more than the first 2 Seasons, which were also great.

But Season 6 of Monk really gets things back on track and features some of the very best episodes of the series. Each season of Monk has that one or 2 episodes that are sort of duds. Even a weak episode of Monk still has funny moments, and while there are a couple of episodes that fall short as a whole though Season 6 is as good as any of the previous 5, which is rare that a series this late into the game can still remain just as good.

The concept still works well, which is a credit to not only the writers, but more so to the actors who take this material that we”ve seen done many times over and make it just as funny now as when the show first started. Ted Levine is great as Captain Leland Stottlemeyer, he’’s one of the few that actually understands Monk and any scene he has with Jason Gray-Stanford as Lt. Randy Disher is priceless Levine and Stanford work so amazing together and with that said Jason Gray-Stanford often steals the show with his performance. Randy can be kind of stupid a lot of the times, but he’’s so damn funny. In many ways Jason Gray-Stanford steals the show every episode he never fails to make me laugh.

The big debate among Monk fans who is the better assistant Sharona who was played by Bitty Schram or Natalie Teeger played by Traylor Howard; for me it’’s no contest as much as I liked Sharona I personally find Natalie by far the more interesting character and quite honestly I prefer the Natalie seasons over the Sharona seasons. Emmy Clarke plays Natalie’’s teenage daughter Julie Teeger and she’’s a very talented young actress who has a bright future ahead of her. The late great Stanley Kamel as Dr. Kroger is always a pleasure to watch.

But of course above all Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk is the show; in my opinion Tony Shalhoub is without a doubt the best comedic actor on TV and in Hollywood in general. While Monk is a very funny show sometimes people forget how tragic the show is. Monk always had OCD, but it wasn”t too bad until the death of his wife. In the comedy there is also a lot of tragedy and Shalhoub is simply brilliant.

Monk Season 6 was overall a great season with some of the very best episodes of the series. As I stated earlier I loved the 4th and 5th Seasons and overall prefer them over the first 2, but there were some flaws with some episodes that didn”t quite work, but the 6th Season really delivers big time. Maybe not the best Season of Monk, but it’’s pretty close to it.

MR. MONK AND HIS BIGGEST FAN- *****

One of the best episodes of the series Sarah Silverman guest stars as Marcie Maven (last seen during season 2) is obsessed with Monk and she gets his help when a neighbor is found murdered and the evidence points to her dog. But her dog was put down 3 days before the murder. It seems the dog was framed, which yes sounds really silly, but this episode was simply hysterical. It’’s no secret who the killer is; figuring out how is a bit tougher.

MR. MONK AND THE RAPPER- ****

Clichéd episode, but really funny; Snoop Dog guest stars as a rapper under a murder investigation. Seeing Mr. Monk in the Hip-Hop culture was hysterical. Yeah it’’s a clichéd concept, but it’’s damn funny.

MR. MONK AND THE NAKED MAN- ***

Each season of Monk seems to have that one dud and this is one of them; after a dead body is found a nude beach Monk is brought in to help with the case. Monk and nudists are bound for some laughs, but overall the episode falls flat and the comedy was a bit too over the top. Not all is lost there’’s actually a decent twist on who the killer is and some funny moments.

MR. MONK AND THE BAD GIRLFRIEND- **** ½

Excellent episode with plenty of laughs; the killer is obvious, but trying to figure out how they did it was the best part. This is something lacking from Monk the past couple of years. The ending is a bit tragic, but great episode.

MR. MONK AND THE BIRDS AND THE BEES- ***

This episode was weak; we know who the killer is and how they did it; therefore it’’s not as fun. There are some good moments, but overall it just doesn”t fully work; in my opinion this was the weakest of the season; not bad or anything, but doesn”t quite work.

MR. MONK AND THE BURIED TREASURE- *****

Classic episode of Monk; this one has Dr. Kroger’’s son seeking Monk’’s help finding what he thinks is a buried treasure, only he doesn”t tell Monk what he’’s in search for he tells him it’’s a school project. I wasn”t expecting much, but it turned out to be one of my favorite episodes. The final act with Monk and Kroger’’s son trapped in a car buried in gravel was hysterical.

MR. MONK AND THE DAREDEVIL- *** ½

Good episode that features Monk’’s arch rival Harold Krenshaw played by Tim Bagley; both Monk and Harold want to be the center of Dr. Kroger’’s attention and this episode has the two at it again. Not the best episode of the season, but with Monk and Harold laughs are bound to happen.

MR. MONK AND THE WRONG MAN- ****

Solid episode that has a man Monk locked away for a double murder is now cleared due to DNA; but is this guy really innocent? Funny episode like the previous not one of the best, but very enjoyable without a slow moment.

MR. MONK IS UP ALL NIGHT- **** ½

Starts off slow, but once it gets going it gets really good; this one is very much a mystery and figuring out what happened is a lot of fun. Besides the mystery there are also a lot of funny moments.

MR. MONK AND THE MAN WHO SHOT SANTA CLAUS- *****

Classic episode of Monk; This is the 3rd Christmas episode of the series and it’’s probably the best one and one of my favorite episodes of the series; From beginning to end this one is a blast. Seeing Monk and Santa Claus fighting each other was just too funny.

MR. MONK JOINS A CULT- *** ½- Good episode with some funny moments, but as a whole it slightly lacks; Still worth watching though.

MR. MONK GOES TO THE BANK- ****- Classic Monk; this is one of the best episodes of the series with a solid twist at the end; the final few minutes are hysterical; Randy Disher steals the show in this one.

MR. MONK AND THE THREE JULIES- *****- Possibly the best episode of the season and one of the best of the series; this one has a killer on the loose murdering women with the name Julie Teeger, which of course is the name of Natalie’’s teenage daughter. The story is excellent with great mystery and an excellent twist and it’’s one of the funniest Monk episodes.

MR. MONK PAINTS HIS MASTERPIECE- ****- Another episode I wasn”t expecting too much out of, but it turned out excellent; while not the strongest episode of the season it’’s a lot of fun. Sadly this is the last episode that Stanley Kamel appeared on due to his death.

MR. MONK IS ON THE RUN PART I- *****- The great thing about Monk is you can pretty much watch any episode of any season and enjoy it and not be lost. But they do have one running story arc on this show; the murder of Monk’’s wife Trudy; and right here is one of the Trudy episodes. This one has Monk the trail of who killed his wife, but before he can get answers the man is killed and Monk is the suspect. Obviously we know Monk is innocent even though it looks as if he did pull the trigger. This episode is one of the best of the series; it’’s funny and dramatic with an excellent twist and an ending that will have you begging for more.

MR. MONK IS ON THE RUN PART II- *****- Great season finale; it’’s funny, dramatic and suspenseful. After this episode Monk gets one step closer to solving the murder of his wife. The season started off great and ended great.

This collection of “classic” science fiction gets three stars for value because there are fifty movies for an incredibly low price. On the other hand, you get what you pay for. Some movies in this group almost rise to the level of classic; including a couple that surprised me. Most of these movies are Mystery Science Theater 3000 fodder, and many of them actually appeared on MST3000. Highlights, or lowlights, as you prefer:

The Incredible Petrified World: It is incredible that anyone actually paid to see this one in the theater. The acting qualifies as petrified.

Queen of the Amazons: The Amazons needed a man to save them, and us, from this awful movie.

Buy,Download, Or Stream SciFi Classics 50 Movie Pack Collection! Click Here

Robot Monster: Now you can tell everyone that you know where moth-eaten gorilla suits go when they die.

She Gods of Shark Reef: Even Roger Corman had to be embarrassed by this one.

The Amazing Transparent Man: Actually almost a good movie. The special effects were okay.

The Atomic Brain: Show some scantily clad babes, slap the word atomic brain for a title and you have a brilliant science fiction movie; or not.

The Horrors of Spider Island: Women in their undies run around an island with guys and a spider chasing them. A sad end for all of us.

The Wasp Woman: Beware of former beauty queens taking non-FDA approved drugs.

Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet: Actually not bad; decent robot with a murky plot.

Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women: You take the footage of the previous film, make sure the babes all look like they just got ready for a film shoot, and you have a sequel, ta-da.

Kong Island: Sad. Very Sad. I wish I could take back these minutes of my life.

Attack of the Monsters: Gammera battles Guiron in a periodically funny Japanese monster movie.

Bride of the Gorilla: Now you know why Raymond Burr switched to being a lawyer.

Gammera the Invincible: Gammera learns to walk on two legs, and generally terrorizes Japan. What else is new? Still, you have to watch this one if you are a Gammera fan.

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians: Just when you think you”ve seen the worst you encounter this movie.

Teenagers from Outer Space: There are actually some interesting moments in this movie. It’’s a good thing they failed to discover malls.

Crash of Moons and Menace from Outer Space: Early television science fiction. I love the costumes on the ladies!

Hercules Against the Moon Men; Hercules and the Captive Women; Hercules and the Tyrants of Babylon; and Hercules Unchained; not all were really Hercules, but for most it does not matter anyway.

The Lost Jungle Volumes 1 and 2: Great white hunter look silly in jungle.

Mesa of Lost Women: Lacks bite.

Assignment: Outer Space: Needs reassigned.

Laser Mission: This movie needs cut.

Killers from Space: Decent science fiction, in spite of periodic inanity.

Phantom from Space: Aliens are misunderstood in this movie, which is one of the better ones in this collection.

White Pongo: The gorilla suit from Bride of the Gorilla gets bleached. This movie is actually decent.

Snow Creature: Begins with promise and leaves you cold.

Devil of the Desert Against the Sons of Hercules: Actually watchable.

First Spaceship on Venus: Probably the last too.

Zontar-Thing from Venus: Attack of the…never mind.

The Astral Factor: Stefanie Powers is the only hot thing in this movie.

The Galaxy Invader: You might be a redneck if you are in this sad movie.

Battle of the Worlds: Battle of Staying Awake.

Unknown World: Interesting moments mixed with strange script lines.

Blood Tide: James Earl Jones, Jose Ferrer and Mary Louise Weller are doing fine until they encounter a cheesy monster.

The Brain Machine: Is brain dead.

Wild Women of Wongo: I ain”t saying nothing.

Prehistoric Women: Hot hairdo women in caves.

They Came from Beyond Space: Considering that this movie is one of the best in this collection, I should be nice to it.

Warning from Space: Crams too many story lines into less than an hour and a half, but otherwise a decent movie.

Eegah: The prototype for the character Jaws in the James Bond movies, only living in a cave.

Planet Outlaws: It’’s Buck Rogers!

Phantom Planet: Has its moments, good, bad, and awful.

Colossus and the Amazon Queen: Rod Taylor in a funny sword and sandals movie; about as bad as it sounds.

Destroy All Planets: Gammera (or Gamera) trots about saving little boys that steal submarines and get captured by aliens.

Please forgive me if I missed a movie or two in this list. There are a lot of movies in this collection, so I might have overlooked one, either unintentionally or intentionally. If you are a big science fiction fan, you will enjoy many of these movies. Even the movies you find less than okay are good for one watch, and the price of this collection will keep your personal distress low. Good luck!

SciFi Classics is a collection of 50 movies that have only one thing in common: they are all public domain and as such it is possible for them to be presented in highly affordable collections. I paid $21.99 for my set and that comes down to about 44 cents per movie. The way that movie tickets cost nowadays, you really cannot complain about this collection.

Anyways, here is how I rate the movies in SciFi Classics:

This DVD contains the episodes, “Christmas Crackers”, “The Father Christmas Affair”, “Happy Returns” and “The Punch and Judy Affair”. All of these episodes are hilarious and well-written. This is a great collection if you have never seen “AYBS?”. However, if you already own the complete collection, the only thing different about this DVD, is that it contains an “On-Set Interview”.

This set is great to give to someone for Christmas that doesn”t own the entire set on DVD. The scene where the mannequin’’s robe comes open and flashes Mr. Humphries is a classic. It always has me rolling on the floor. This DVD is great to help you get in the Christmas mood. I love watching the BBC Christmas comedies. I pull them out at Thanksgiving every year. GREAT to decorate the tree by. Another great Christmas DVD is the “Keeping Up Appearances Deck the Halls with Hyacinth.” It also makes a great gift!

THE BAND WAGON is (along with SINGIN” IN THE RAIN) my favorite musical of all time. Coming in a close second is EASTER PARADE. Warner Bros. has applied their amazing Ultra-Resolution technology to these two films, to bring out their TECHNICOLOR brilliance.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Classic Musicals Collection - Broadway to Hollywood! Click Here

If you saw what WB did with GWTW, MEET ME IN ST LOUIS or SINGIN” IN THE RAIN, you know we”re in for a treat!

But it doesn”t stop there…

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Classic Musicals Collection - Broadway to Hollywood! Click Here

THE BAND WAGON has a commentary by the director’’s daughter…this girl named Liza, and a new documentary about the making of the film, and a documentary about her amazing father, and a Vitaphone short with Jack Buchanan, AND the deleted song TWO-FACED WOMAN. Add to this a new 5.1 stereo soundtrack, and you”re in BAND WAGON heaven!

Then we get to EASTER PARADE, the quintessential Hollywood favorite with Judy Garland at her best teaming up with the amazing Astaire. The extras here include Fred’’s daughter on commentary along with the foremost Garland author John Fricke, a gallery of Astaire trailers, a docu on the making of EASTER PARADE and best of all, the amazing PBS Biographical epic that was created by American Masters last year, JUDY GARLAND: BY MYSELF (it won a boatload of Emmy Awards).

OK. So if that was all WB was giving us in this box, I”d be going nuts, but they don”t stop there.

We also get a brand spankin” new 16×9 transfer of BELLS ARE RINGING with Judy Holliday re-creating her stage triumph, along with Dean Martin, a 5.1 soundtrack, outtakes, a new docu, and more…

..and then Francis Ford Coppola personally guides us through one of his earliest works, as Astaire stars with Pet Clark in FINIAN”S RAINBOW, for the first time on DVD, with a 16×9 transfer, and 5.1 audio and director commentary, and premiere footage…

Last but not least is the return of BRIGADOON, which on DVD before looked like $%^&*(*&!!!!

Not anymore! A 16×9 remastering with 5.1 sound, and a slew of outtakes gives us a definitive presentation of Gene Kelly & Cyd Charisse creating Minnelli magic to the Lerner and Loewe score.

All this, in one box, with our kind Amazon friends selling it at an unbelievably bargain price, is really beyond belief.

WB continues to boggle the DVD-lover’’s mind! WOW!

Warner has been doing a magnificent job of using the latest picture resolution process to restore and/or polish up their best movies; and again they do not disappoint! Warner Home Video truly hits a home run and does the incredible with this boxed set of five of the greatest musicals of all time! The set is well presented with excellent digital transfer, wonderful sound and a bevy of sublime extras.

The Band Wagon (which itself is a two DVD special edition) stars Fred Astaire as an older entertainer trying to be successful again in show business. Things do not go well: he doesn”t like the director; there aren”t fancy dance scenes that he prefers to perform and he has to dance with a ballerina! The show is unpopular and Fred’’s character Tony Hunter saves the day using his superior technique and know-how. The extras are wonderful! Liza Minnelli (whose Dad, Vincente Minnelli, did an excellent job as director of the picture) and Michael Feinstein provide an engaging commentary. There are also two documentaries: “Get Aboard! The Band Wagon” about the making of the movie and an older expose entitled “The Men Who Made the Movies: Vincente Minnelli.” You won”t regret these-they are excellent and very informative! SMILE There’’s also the outtake musical number of Two Faced Women. Very good! For Astaire fans there’’s an Astaire trailer collection and even a musical short of Jack Buchanan with the Glee Quartet. I was particularly pleased with the fine commentary Liza Minnelli and Michael Feinstein give here.

The other two disc special edition is of the MGM classic Easter Parade. Wow! This has always been one of my very favorite musicals. The acting and the chemistry between Astaire playing the professional dancer and Judy Garland playing Hannah Brown his at first unlikely dance partner-and eventually romantic partner-is nothing short of excellent and captivating! Ann Miller turns in a great performance as the dancer who leaves Fred’’s character to try to get even further ahead in her career. The digital quality of the video and the sound are both excellent. There’’s a documentary of the making of this movie and a particular favorite of mine is the American Masters documentary profile: “Judy Garland: By Myself” put out only with the essential effort of my friend John Fricke. (The American Masters documentary won more than just one Emmy, making this a particularly valuable extra! John won one of the Emmys for this; he is the leading Garland biographer who wrote several books on Judy.) John worked so hard on this profile! John’’s fine commentary along with Ava Astaire (Fred Astaire’’s daughter) proves to be an excellent resource for reliable information about this film and Judy. You also get the outtake musical number “Mr. Monotony.” There’’s a Judy Garland trailer collection and some promotions for the original film are provided. Wow! A fine two disc set in and of itself.

Bells Are Ringing is Judy Holliday’’s last performance; she plays a worker at a telephone answering service who gets overly involved with her client’’s personal lives. Jean Stapleton, a favorite actress of mine (from All In The Family as Edith) is in this picture as well. This picture was nominated for an Oscar for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture and the song “Just In Time” is certainly one good reason why! Outtake musical numbers include “Is It a Crime?” and “My Guiding Star.” The digital transfer is again excellent and the sound quality is excellent. This is definitely a classic musical.

Brigadoon boasts a wonderful musical score by Lerner and Lowe. The principle cast is only the best: Gene Kelly, Van Johnson and Cyd Charisse. An adventurous American suddenly uncovers a magical Scottish town which is only visible one day a century! Does he stay there and perhaps experience a fine true love; or should he return to his life as it is? Quite the dilemma! There are three musical outtakes you want to look at: “Come to Me Bend to Me,” “From This Day On,” and “Sword Dance.” An audio outtake and a brand new digital transfer make this a fine addition to the box set as well as your DVD collection.

Last, but certainly not least, is Finian’’s Rainbow. A wonderful fanciful musical, this film stars Fred Astaire in his final full length performance as Finian McLonergan. Somehow Finian steals a pot of gold from Og the leprechaun. Finian and his daughter Sharon (the lovely Petula Clark) go to America (as does Og) and use their powers to overcome a rather prejudiced senator. Not only are the musical numbers excellent; the cinematography is superlative and the ending is a happy one! There is an excellent commentary by director Francis Ford Coppola and a cute feature on the film’’s premiere.

All in all, this is clearly one of the best boxed sets of supremely fine great musicals and it is very reasonably priced. For me personally this set was an easy decision-it is already in my personal DVD collection! I highly recommend this boxed set for fans of the great American musicals as well as all patrons of the arts. This is also a solid introduction to some of the quality musicals produced on film to date. Equally important, the hard work and effort everyone put into the seemingly countless extras is superlative.

”Wal Mart, The High Cost Of Low Price” is filled with first hand testimonials and some hard-fact figures that will help in validating your hatred of this greedy giant, and visually exposes those in other countries who are ruthlessly used as slaves to produce the cheap products you purchase when you patronize this monolith.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price! Click Here

These “jobs” provided to the labor forces of India, China, Bangladesh, and Mexico are not ”good wage” jobs even for third world standards. The people are overworked, underpaid, and forced to work in sub-human conditions. These human beings make 13 to 17 cents and hour, and work 10 to 18 hour days without breaks, all so you can have that $1.49 blouse.

Exposed in this film are the squalid, rent controlled apartments in China, provided by the company, that put to shame the most rancid ghetto house in your hometown. And if the employee chooses not to live in these rat-infested housing developments, the rent is still deducted from their wages. Wal-Mart has managed to lower the work standards set for these hard-pressed, low wage, third-world countries that other companies are going to follow, sucking down the standards of working all across the world.

The manager of the Mexico factories went on a tour to make sure that working conditions were humane. He was fired when he reported that the conditions were intolerably inhumane. In his own words, he didn”t think retaliation would be brought against him for doing his job.

If you think it was a good thing that America abolished slavery, then think again before you go into a Wal-Mart. Just because the US is no longer “importing” slaves, doesn”t make it right to continue to use slavery in other countries to produce high profits for personal gain. Wal-Mart’’s practices are no different than bringing slaves over from Africa to pick our cotton, it’’s still a cheap way for the rich to get richer at the expense of human blood and sweat.

Intermittently inserted in the film is a speech made by Lee Scott to the high-end employees and stockholders of Wal-Mart, which sounds very much like an Amway pep-talk. Lee Scott’’s earnings for 2005 were $27,207,799.00. The average Wal-Mart hourly employee’’s was $13,861.00.

Interesting facts: After 9/11, the Walton’’s built themselves an underground bunker in case of another terrorist attack, costing millions of dollars that should have went into paying back the Government for having to subsidize their employee’’s un-affordable medical benefits.

The Walton family gave less than 1% of their wealth to charity. Bill Gates, not even a nice man himself, gave 58%.

The “Critical Need” fund, set up to assist Wal-Mart employees in emergencies, received five million dollars from Wal-Mart employees (making $13,861.00 annually) and only $6,000.00 from the Walton family, who made, collectively, 102 billion.

Wal-Mart actually had a commercial campaign about “buying American” while all their products come from sweatshops overseas.

Wal-Mart has refused to address crime statistics that show an upswing of violent crime in their large, remote, under-lit and un-protected parking lots, putting their customers in danger and taxing the local law enforcement. The State of California alone paid out 80 Million dollars in medical benefits to poverty-level Wal-Mart employees because the 102 Billion Dollar Walton family does not want to give their “associates” fair medical benefits.

There are many ways to hate Wal-Mart and its ilk, and many books out on the subject, but I recommend watching this DVD so you can actually see the slave workers and conditions overseas that these selfish billionaires exploit without passing down their profit to the “small people” who helped build their empire. The presentation could have used a little more snappiness, and the DVD starts out very slow, but keep watching and you will eventually see the monster peeking out from behind your curtain.

Stop shopping at Wal-Mart. Just stop. You don”t need their cheap goods that fall apart two days after you bring them home, and it feels good to know that you make a difference by not supporting slavery. Enjoy!

A powerful documentary that contrasts the public persona of Walmart with the human toll of their behind-the-scenes business practices. Deeply personal vignettes from small business owners, Walmart managers, workers, attorneys and environmentalists review the tragic consequences of one of the world’’s largest, most venal corporations running amok on rural America - subsidized by our own tax dollars. This is a movie was Walmart does NOT want you to see - so tell all your friends!

This 40-minute TV special tells the story of Rerun, Linus and Lucy’’s very cute younger brother (I loved the scenes with him stuck on the back of his mother’’s bicycle). As the smallest child he feels left out of playing around with the other kids and wishes for a dog for Xmas. He starts a great friendship with Snoopy but Charlie Brown is reluctant to let him go. Snoopy’’s brothers also visit and cause much calamity.

It’’s all harmless fun, if not completely indisposable. Though the DVD is where the real worth comes in. Included is a decent documentary on the original Charlie Brown Christmas, with interviews with cast members and the filmmakers. Also included is Charlie Brown’’s Christmas Tales, a series of Xmas sketches featuring different Peanuts characters, lasting about 5 minutes each. Some very kiddie trailers are on there also.

The DVD is in 1.33:1 full frame, as drawn, with Dolby 2.0 sound.

This hour-long Christmas special aired on ABC in prime-time last year, and it’’s now out on DVD with two featurettes that were produced specifically to be tacked on to ABC’’s recent airings of “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. One of them is a brief documentary on the creation of the original 1965 Christmas special with rarely-seen animation from the early sixties, making it a must-see for Peanuts historians.

There’’s no underlying religious theme here - just a string of family-friendly gags recycled from strips dating back to the sixties. The only thing here that might confuse your pre-schooler is why any parent would name their kid “Rerun”. (It’’s actually a nickname; Lucy felt alienated when Linus was born, and she experienced a “rerun” of those feelings when her new baby brother joined the family. The kid’’s real name has never been revealed.)

Long-time Peanuts fans are making unflattering comparisons between this special and the 1965 holiday classic, but I think there’’s room on your shelf for both of them. This is a cute and funny cartoon that the whole family can enjoy together.

This is an awesome DVD for kids of all ages (and I mean adults too!) it is a wonderful way of appreciating animals and classical music together. There are no spoken words, only classical music and beautiful images and clips of animals and children interacting. My kids love it. I also got it as a birthday gift for a friend, and they are thrilled with it too. I know I will be sharing it with many as a gift. It is well edited and very attractive. The bonus music CD is a great addtion. We often listen to it and talk about the animals in the DVD.

I totally recommend it! we will be adding more to our collection. This is a great healthy, safe and fun way to entertain your children .. my 3 year old, 1 year old and 8 year old love it! :)

I am pretty disappointed with this DVD. I thought my daughter would enjoy watching it because she loves animals. I think that there was not a lot of consideration in picking the music that went with the different animal groups. The frames/views change very quickly throughout the whole video. Also, there was no reason to add in the baby genius cartoon characters into the animal scenes - it adds nothing to the viewing experience, is distracting, and feels like blatant marketing. Particularily, when the animal viewing is over, a “music video” with the baby genius characters plays which does not fit at all with the rest of the video and gives the very clear impression of brainwashing and product placement. No thank you baby genius. I”d rather have bought a national geographic film.

This Lupin III movie is very good. Just what every Lupin III special and movies has, good story, good music, good action-comedy scenes and etc. But even though, I don”t think this is a good Lupin III movie for newcomers because the animation is not the best and there are other Lupin III specials that are better than this one.

As always, the english version sucks because it’’s made from funimation, so the japanese version is more original and the voices fits the characters. The menu is OK, no big deal.

I loved every minute of it. Zenigata gets the spotlight that he deserves in this one. Tokyo Crisis has in my opinion the best “guest” character of all the specials. For non-Zenigata fans there’’s also plenty of the other characters too, and it provides all the fast-past action you almost expect from Lupin the 3rd. The music–smooth, slick and in-your-face. It even has introspective moments which you might not expect from Lupin the 3rd. And of course, it’’s hilarious. What can I say? Buy it!

Hollywood really needs to take this story and move with it!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Prince Among Slaves! Click Here

PRINCE AMONG SLAVES is an hour long documentary on the true life events of one Abduhl Rahman, son of the Muslim King of Futa Jallon, who was sold by rival African tribes into Europeans hands and transported to America in 1788.Purchased by a Thomas Foster,”Prince” as he was to be called, serves 40 years as a slave, marries and sires nine children, and becomes political fodder for a Mississippi News Journalist, two Presidents, one Secretary of State and for the entire American Colonization Society in his fight for freedom and return to his homeland. This is a great and absolutely fascinating true story directed and written by Lloyd Jones, Andrea Kalin (American Experience - Partners Of The Heart) and Cannes nominated Bill Duke(The Killing Floor,Miracle’’s Boys, Hoodlum and Rage in Harlem).”Prince” Rahman’’s story reads like a fairytale, but it is pointed out, quite poignantly, that much about what is known at the time, may be greatly exaggerated due to how politically motivated certain players were in “using” Rahman’’s story.

This documentary is narrated by Mos Def and is partially “talking heads” and partially below average re-enactment for a PBS Special.THAT is my only rub with this presentation. The budget may have been low and there is subpar acting, makeup and sets. There is nothing, though, subpar about the information presented here.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Prince Among Slaves! Click Here

Other suggested documentaries of similar interest would be The Middle Passage,The Voyage of La Amistad: A Quest for Freedom as well as the feature films Amazing Grace and Amistad.

If not for a magazine ad that I saw on the subject, I would”ve never known about this PBS Home video, but I”m so glad that I saw it. This film is about an African prince who was captured ironically on his way from conquering slaves. In this film, viewers find out the differences between indentured servitude, what Africans considered slavery, and what Europeans did to make slavery even more brutal than it already was. This is the type of film that the Board of Education will try to dodge as much as possible, but it is a part of American History that needs to be told. I watched this film and flinched from the treatment of slaves being torn from their families. However, the unique part in this story was that runaway slaves weren”t always beaten, at least in the case of this prince who was called Prince without the slaveowner knowing he really was a prince. This film also discusses not all White people were for slavery, which is something that needs to be discussed in schools as well. This film was outstanding, and I wish it had been longer.

Actual detective shows are kind of hard to find now — let alone a funny, well-written detective series with a hilarious twist. That’’s where “Psych” comes on, on the heels of “Monk.” While it could use a bit more ironing, this clever series does a good job blending comedy and mystery, and gives us some lovably fradulent guys to follow the adventures of.

Shawn Spencer (James Roday) was trained to be ultra-observant and intelligent by his strict, humorless father Henry (Corbin Bernsen), who wanted him to be a cop. And though he is determined never to be a cop (he doesn”t even have a steady job), Shawn can glimpse clues and details that nobody else notices — even the police.

But it backfires when he reports his observations to the police, and is arrested as a suspect. To save himself, Shawn pretends to be a psychic — and the gimmick works so well that he decides to do it professionally. So he drags his very reluctant pal Gus (Dulé Hill) out of a boring job, and they end up regularly hired by the police chief, despite the skepticism of Carl Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), who doesn”t buy their act.

And so they set out into a variety of cases: death at a spelling bee, a haunting at a sorority house, a wedding tainted by theft and murder, a ghostly stalking, a cat used as a witness, Civil war reenactments, a comic book convention (where they mess with George Takei’’s head), alien abductions, speed dating, underground poker, and organizing a surprise birthday party for Lassiter.

Most shows aren”t really able to strike a balance between comedy and mystery, but “Psych” does. The mysteries are light and fun, and the people making it actually seem to be enjoying themselves — no hardcore crimes, gore and grimness. That’’s what makes it so enjoyable.

The mysteries are well done, but each one has enough funny dialogue (”My name is Ichabod Fletchman, Sticky-Icky to my boys”) and kookiness to keep it from ever being dull. Between kooky mysteries — usually with Shawn flailing around in his pseudo-mystical act — we get to see what turned him into such a weirdo, and his current relationship with his sarcastic father.

There is a slight flaw, though — a disproportionate number of the guilty parties seem to be pretty young women. Fortunately this starts lessening as the season goes on. The mysteries get progressively tighter, and the writing cleverer and funnier (”I”m never doing anything blindly with you again! I learned that at the Mexican border. Twice!”).

Roday is hilarious and brilliant — charming, funny, likable, pleasant, and completely devoid of any dignity (”IIIIII hear a voice!”), with some great full-body acting. Shawn is one of those people who is half luck and half talent; no matter how outragous he gets, things somehow always work out.

Hill is equally great as his intelligent, responsible, geeky sidekick who tries to keep them out of serious trouble, while the crusty Timothy Omundson and tentative love interest Maggie Lawson round off the cast. Corbin Bernsen also makes regular appearances as Shawn’’s dad, who considers his son a walking freakshow.

“Psych’’s” first season is a delightfully frothy mix of comedy and mystery, with solid scripting and likable characters. Definitely a good show to keep an eye on.

Shawn Spencer (James Roday) is a loser. He’’s drifted from job to job ever since graduating from high school. The one thing he absolutely knows he doesn”t want to do is become a cop. That’’s what his dad (Corbin Bernsen) has been training him to do since he was a little kid. Growing up, he learned how to observe every little detail at a glance.

Even though Shawn has no desire to be a cop, he can”t stop himself from calling in tips to the local police based on news reports he sees. After one such tip, he finds himself under suspicion for knowing too much. He quickly talks his way out of it by pretending to be a psychic. In fact, he’’s so convincing, Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson) hires him on a part time basis to help with difficult cases.

Shawn is usually teamed up with Detectives Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) and O”Hara (Maggie Lawson). Lassiter doesn”t believe a word Shawn says and usually tries to trip him up. O”Hara is skeptical but can”t deny what she sees Shawn pull off time after time.

Also along for the ride is Shawn’’s best friend Gus (Dule Hill). Gus is reluctant to get involved in the cases, but Shawn drags him in anyway. And the two have to deal with plenty of exciting cases. There’’s a heir who is kidnapped, murders at a spelling bee and a comic convention, dastardly deeds at a high society wedding, and an urban legend that may be repeating itself.

This show is a blend of comedy and mystery. It airs right after Monk on USA, and is a perfect fit. While that show is often melancholy, this one is high energy. In fact, sometimes, it’’s a bit too over the top. But most of the time it’’s fun.

As with many shows, it took a little while to hit its stride. The first few mysteries are rather weak and the focus is on Shawn doing his fake psychic thing. When the show returned from hiatus with “Forget Me Not,” (easily my favorite of the season) it found the right balance. The show is still hilarious but the mysteries are much tighter.

And the comedy has something for everyone. It’’s got fast, witty dialog, absurd situations, and full body slapstick.

The DVD set is packed with lots of extras. There are plenty of deleted scenes and one or two commentaries per disc. The first disc contains two versions of the pilot, behind the scenes segments, and some hilarious bloopers. My only real complaint with the set is the lack of episode descriptions. The titles are given, but they don”t always trigger my memory as to what the episode itself is about.

The show took a while to find its footing. But once it did, it became lots of fun.
